Think Humanity brought twelve-year-old Napona into our hostel program in 2012.

Napona means “Survivor”

Napona was born in Rwanda. Both of her parents were killed, leaving her behind as an orphan.
She lost her parents during the wars in Rwanda. She had no relatives, but was cared for by the neighbors who also came to the Kyangwali Refugee Camp in Uganda. She doesn’t know the village she was born, because her parents died when she was 2 years.
She was chosen to be a student at the Think Humanity Girls’ Hostel in 2012 at age 12 with big hopes and dreams.
Napona studies hard to become a lawyer in the future. She wants to become a lawyer so that she can contribute to the justice system back in her country. She also feels that she can build a school for the orphans in the future.

“When I see lawyers I admire them. I will be solving problems of people who has problems in all the world. I will be supporting people who have problems.” – Napona Irakoze

The girls learned skills, such as basket-weaving in addition to their school studies.

Napona grew into a young woman. This picture was taken in January 2016. That week she learned that she had passed into Advanced Level.
